#LivingupToNewNormalTraditions

Vigan City Fiesta is annually celebrated by our hometown. Different activities showcasing talent and products are seen during this celebration. Competitions were been held to testify the capabilities of a true Bigueño in terms of hobbies and talents.
The creative and talented dancers of different schools to compete in street dancing competitions were being held during our Fiesta. Every municipalities of Ilocos Sur showcasing their OTOP “One Town One Product” is much awaited during times of Kannawidan. These are some things were used to be seen before pandemic. Hence, all of this were canceled due to Covid 19 challenges.

It has been a norm of our municipality to celebrate the annual Vigan City Fiesta. This is an awaited event every year by nearby provinces and tourist because of different activities held during these times, but to ensure the safety of Bigueños and the people, they need to cancel some of the exciting events and activities. Hence, It is really grateful to know that amidst pandemic they still conducted some activities to continue the tradition. Maybe there is some differences way back then but somehow we still get to celebrate it by our own simple ways. It is evident that even though they are some trials and limitations during our fiesta, our municipality formulated some contingent plans to still celebrate our culture and traditions. To help the locals by means of helding some activities such as cooking shows, quiz bees and sports. To still showcase our creativity as a Bigueño with the use of technology. To squeeze our creative juices to share it to others. It is the fear of getting the virus we are worried about. However, the discipline were being seen, and followed all the safety protocols implemented hereof.

Continuing the Traditions even up to these times is not a problem, as long as we are responsible of our duties and actions we can still live the normal way we wanted it to be. The Celebration we expected this year may not be the best of events and activities way back then, but it’s still our safety lies between it. There will
be times that celebrating it again with no restrictions, with facemask-free. Despite of all the challenges, the spirit of Bigueno still lies between us. It’s not the annual event we are celebrating it, it’s the people are.
